Sevilla: The city that I love
Congress President Recommendations to enjoy Sevilla
I was born in Sevilla, I live downtown, and I am History professor, so I know the city very well. From my azotea we have an amazing view: The Cathedral (XIV century, Gothic and Renascent style) and the famous Giralda Tower (XII century, Almohade style). I would like you enjoy my city, taste our rich gastronomy, specially our famous Tapas, small dishes (cost between 2-4 euros depend on the bar), enjoy the Sevillan people: open, friendly and always ready to help.
Also is time to learn a little bit Spanish. So here we go….
If you love Art and History –with capital letter- you are in the right city. Go downtown. Take the tram (tranvía. Cost: 1,45 euros). Station: Just 5´minutes walking from the Collection Hotel and the Venue. In less than 10 minutes will reach Correos Stop (Parada de Correos) which is the third stop.
Woooow! Suddenly you have been transported to the XVI Century: The Cathedral, The Alcazar Royal Palace (XI-XV century Palace), Indians Archives (XVI century), La Casa de la Provincia (where you HAVE to visit the Exhibition José María Cagigal: El humanism en el deporte organize as a Cultural Activity of the Congress –open between 10.00-14.00; from 17.00-20.00). Free entrance.
Recommendation during your stay in Sevilla, no options, no excuses….

Visit The Alcazar Royal Palace: Spectacular: Roman, Islamic, Renascence styles in perfect harmony: just walk, see, breath, feel… the Central Patio, The Charles the V Emperor rooms (XVI ), which is La Casa de la Contratación (Trading office in the XVI century). Enjoy and walk in Ambassador Room, Patios, beautiful and colorful tiles (Azulejos), fountains, and a beautiful Garden full of wonderful trees, flowers, plants…
Indian Archives (free visit): Enjoy a XVI century elegant stairs, visit the magnificent collections of documents. National Geography, historians from México, Brasil, Chile, Ecuador, Argentina, Colombia… try to learn more about history, travel overseas, pirates, trading….
In the sunset the atmosphere is completely magic, walk in the Barrio de Santa Cruz, the Jewish quarter: Plaza de la Virgen de los Reyes, Plaza de Santa Marta, Plaza de Doña Elvira, los Venerables, walk between narrow streets like in the movies like Lawrence of Arabia (Reds –Warren Beatty); Day and Night (Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz, 2010) and you will learn why Tom Cruise love Seville, The Conquer of Paradise (Ridley Scott movie with Sigourney Weaver and Gerard Depardieu).
Enjoy and try tapas in calle Mateos Gago –the street in from of the Giralda Tower- : Bar Las Columnas, Bodega Perejil or my fever tiny bar La Fresquita and learn about Holly Week in Sevilla. Please click http://bartapassevilla.com/bares-en-mateos-gago/.

If you want to see an Arabian Bath (XIII century), visit or eat lunch or dinner at Restaurante Mesón del Moro (Tom Cruise fever restaurant in Seville) https://www.tripadvisor.es/Restaurant_Review-g187443-d1123331-Reviews-San_Marco-Seville_Province_of_Seville_Andalucia.html
In the sunset-night drink something in a Azotea (Roof) in front of the Cathedral and enjoy the view. I recommend http://www.palacioalcazar.com/es/nuestra-historia y
For decades the Hotel – Alcázar Palace was the home of my good friend and famous American painter and bullfighter John Fulton (Philadelphia), who fell in love with this exceptional place. Fulton was the first American to reach the highest rank in bullfighting, as “matador de toros” in the Maestranza Bullring in Seville. Artist, painter, good man. In1998 at the age of 65, Fulton passed away in Seville.
Around the area you will enjoy El Palacio del Arzobispado, Gúzman el Bueno street with beautiful patios and palaces and Real Academia de Buenas Letras (Literature Royal Academy) located in Casa de Los Pinelos (XV century Palace).
Churches, corners, houses, streets, balconies, windows, everything is magic, unforgettable.
Ah! Ah! If you like jogging or running, please run early in the morning in María Luisa Park where I have been running in the last 42 years and enjoy The Plaza España, an spectacular construction (1929). Maria Luisa park is just 5 minutes jogging from the Hotel Collection and the Venue.
Please, enjoy the city that I love
